11.1. General information

Bodies of the Volvo cars are executed with the highest quality. Their design and the equipment completely meet the modern requirements of passive safety. It is reached by the relevant constructive decisions, modern technologies and use of the materials allowing to give to a body the operational durability, anticorrosive firmness, to ensure passive (protected by properties of a body) safety and comfort for crew.
Many of above-mentioned properties are reached thanks to use of the high-strength, thermally processed steel of HSS (High Streught Steel) which possesses the raised limit of fluidity and high durability on stretching in comparison with usual, traditionally applied to production of bodies, steel.
Proceeding from need of preservation of operational properties of a body when performing repair work (at damages of a body of emergency or operational character), it imposes certain technological restrictions and brings some specifics in application of methods of recovery repair. It is caused by properties of HSS steel

On the illustrations given below (rice 11.1, 11.2,11.3,11.4), dark shading allocated the body elements made of HSS steel.

— editing of the details made of HSS steel is accompanied by a high probability of their cracking therefore it is better to change them, but not to repair;
— details from steel of HSS cannot be heated during editing and to weld an oxygen-acetylene torch;
— when using the leveling stand, and also other ways of an extract, difficulties with editing of details of HSS made of steel are possible if they a point of support (or anticapture) are chosen incorrectly;
— at power influence you watch closely reaction of a body in a zone of a support of the stretching tool or anticapture, without allowing deformation of elements or spatial designs of the whole part of a body (only the deformed its sites have to move);
— if necessary install the extras and technological elements allowing to increase rigidity of a support or anticapture;
— all details made of HSS steel have various limit of fluidity caused by strength calculation of a body;
— at repair of damages of a body of the car Volvo demands exact observance of the technological recommendations given below.
