7.3.1. Check and adjustment of angles of installation of wheels

For the correct check of angles of installation of wheels the car has to be unloaded (fuel level in the fuel tank does not matter), and pressure in tires of wheels is brought to norm.

Before measurement of angles of installation of wheels lift a forward part of the car and establish support under suspension bracket levers as it is possible closer to spherical hinges (fig. 7.5).
Then be convinced of lack of a side play (fig. 7.6):

— in the steering mechanism and spherical hinges of steering drafts;
— in bearings of wheels;
— in the top fastenings of the buffer of spring racks;
— in spherical hinges and plugs of levers of a suspension bracket.
In the presence of a side play in one of the specified knots it needs to be eliminated prior to measurement and adjustments.
The measuring equipment is installed according to the instructions attached to it. The turntables installed under forward wheels have to absorb cross movements.
For the correct measurement of a corner of disorder and a corner of a longitudinal inclination of an axis of turn of a wheel the car has to be in horizontal position. It is necessary to rock several times strongly a forward part of the car on turntables up-down. It is necessary in order that the suspension bracket returned to the normal situation.

Disorder of wheels (fig. 7.7, a) has to make 0 ° 30' ± 1 °. For the left and right parties the corner can differ no more than on 40'.
The longitudinal inclination of an axis of turn of a wheel (fig. 7.7, b) has to be 12 ° 41' ± 1 ° and also can differ for the right and left parties at most on 40'.
Carry out adjustment of angles of installation of wheels in such order:
— turn out bolts of a rotary fist;
— adjust the provision of a suspension bracket;
— put and tighten bolts;
— double-check corners;

— tighten bolts of a rotary fist the moment of 91 N · m (fig. 7.8).
If values of angles of installation of wheels remain beyond admissible limits, replace the defective or damaged details.
The convergence of forward wheels of the car should be established concerning a withdrawal axis as back wheels of the car have the variable angles of installation. It will provide the maximum stability of the movement of the car and the minimum wear of tires.

Make sure that devices on forward and back axes are correctly oriented from each other. It is extremely important for measurement of a convergence concerning the axis of withdrawal of wheels which is turning out at identical corners of a convergence of back wheels (fig. 7.9).
The corner between a longitudinal axis of symmetry of the joint-stock company and an axis IN withdrawal of wheels is called the angle of withdrawal. This corner can make no more than 12' (For increase in presentation the angle of withdrawal in the drawing is shown strongly increased).

The convergence of wheels can be determined by measurement of a corner of an at the level of a nave or calculation of a difference of distances between forward and back edges of wheels in points And — and, In — in and With — with (fig. 7.10). Nominal rates of a convergence of forward wheels: a = 9' ± 3'; And — and = 1 — 3 mm; In — in = 1 — 2,5 mm; With — with = 1 — 2 mm.
It is necessary to regulate a convergence of wheels in such order:
— turn off lock-nuts on steering drafts 2;
— adjust a convergence, having turned steering drafts;
— tighten lock-nuts the moment of 42 N · m;
— be convinced that the rubber protective cover sits directly;
— measure distance between an edge of a carving and a lock-nut on the left and right drafts: lengths of steering drafts should not differ more than on 2 mm.
